Sofia (Cehelnik) Racine, 67, of Willimantic, wife of Michael Racine, died Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Hartford Hospital. She was born in Germany, the daughter of the late Andrej and Maria Cehelnik.
She attended Windham High School, as part of the graduating class of 1970. Sofia and Michael were married in March of 1971. She worked at UCONN for 25 years in the department of residential life. She was a very hard worker, and loved being with her grandchildren. She was known as a caretaker, putting others before herself. She loved tag sales, going to the beach, and taking rides in her Corvette with her husband.
In addition to her husband Michael, she is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer and Michelle, five grandchildren; Jacob, Jordan, Mason, Myeia, and Michaela, her sister Regina Valvo, and her brother Stefan Cehelnik. She was predeceased by her sister, Irene Wolicki.
Sofia’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, July 22, 2019, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic CT. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at St. Joseph Church at 10:00 AM, with assembly at church. Burial will be held at a later date.
