Austin Joseph Sanetrik

Austin Sanetrik, 18, of Storrs, CT passed away August 13, 2017 surrounded by his family. Austin fought a courageous battle for many years, and endured many complications with a smile on his face. Austin touched many lives and leaves a legacy of joy, laughter, happiness, compassion and empathy. 

Austin enjoyed participating in Mansfield-Tolland Special Olympics, EO Smith’s Unified Basketball program and Best Buddies. He attended the S.T.A.A.R. Transition program in Storrs. His three favorite places were The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Disney World, and his bed. Austin loved catching fish (but not waiting), his ipad, and playing Uno with his friends.

He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents Orlando and Loraine Perez , grandfather Richard Guarino, and uncle Brett Perez. Austin is survived by his parents Amber and Jon Guarino, siblings Matthew, Noah, Cayla, and Nathan. Extended family that includes grandmother Joan Guarino, and many caring aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was especially close to his cousin Orlando Perez III of New Britain. Austin is also survived by his father Steven Sanetrik and his family. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Austin’s memory to The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, 565 Ashford Center Rd., Ashford, CT 06278 or Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Foundation: Hematology and Oncology Clinic, 282 Washington St., Hartford, CT 06106. The family would also like to express their gratitude for the amazing care Austin received from all of his doctors and nurses at CCMC.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic, CT. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11:00am, at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, 565 Ashford Center Rd., Ashford, CT 06278, please dress in casual attire.
