Thomas Frederick Curry, of Hampton, CT, died on Monday October 2, 2017. The son of T. Morton Curry, Sr. and Ida C. (Ellerbrook) Curry, he was born August 2, 1928 in Wakefield, Rhode Island. Fred spent his early years in Wickford, Rhode Island, attending North Kingstown High School and graduating from the Holderness School in Holderness, New Hampshire. He received his Bachelor’s from the University of Rhode Island, and his MA from the Boston University School of Media and Communications. Fred was a director at WJAR in Providence and WMUR-TV in Manchester, New Hampshire before coming to the University of Connecticut where he was Assistant in the School of Education and Communications until his retirement in 1983. A veteran, Fred served in Thule, Greenland, during the Korean Conflict, and was a past Commander of the Leslie I. Jewett Post of the American Legion.
Fred was and active and enthusiastic member of the Hampton Community, as a deacon and choir member of the Hampton Congregational Church, a vital part of many productions of the Hampton Community Players and the Hampton Recreation Commission, a founder of the Hampton Seniors Group, and with the Hampton Historical Society. Fred also used his talent as an interpreter in the broom shop and carding mill at Old Sturbridge Village. A dynamic personality, Fred was a lifelong athlete, enjoying skiing, golf, and swimming.
Fred is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Capwell) Curry; four sons, Stephen (Cynthia), Keith (Melanie), David (Marcella), and Thomas (Anne); as well as five grandchildren, Joshua, Emily, Jennifer, Brewster, and Alison. Fred was predeceased by a sister, Louise Gardiner, and brothers, T. Morton Curry, Jr. and Thomas E. Curry, III.
A memorial service will be held Saturday October 14, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Hampton Congregational Church, 263 Main St., Hampton. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
