My Father:

Was my Dad, Best Friend, and Best Buddy. He was one of the Great Dad's that someone says "I wish that was my Dad". He along with my amazing Mother, raised me right. Dad taught me the value of doing it right the first time. He taught me to always to try my best so if you didn't win you could at least say you did your best.

Growing up he was my Little League Coach from early on and through high school baseball he never missed a game, cheering me on sitting besides my mother. He was also one of the Boy Scout Leaders, among the many hikes he taught me the value of not getting there first , but stopping to smell the flowers along the way. Dad taught me to fish, hunt, and just about anything that can be done in or around the house. Dad was the handy man. We also went on countless ATV rides growing up, I still remember my Dad pulling me out of the pricker bushes that one time. No big deal though because I had my helmet and jean jacket on.

Dad was so proud when I became a pilot. I still remember taking him on that first plane ride in FL years ago with my Mom, by the Space Shuttle landing facility. He wore that Embry-Riddle hat I gave him proudly. Years ago when I started working for the FAA, he wore that hat proudly too.

In 2010, I put in for a transfer from Utah, and moved closer to home. That following summer 2011, we spent just about every weekend driving to the beach in his truck listening to Bruce Springsteen with the windows rolled down. We then would hall clams from the bay and then head back home to steam them on the grill and if we got a specially big haul, we would invite Aunt Cynthia and Uncle Walt. Between my Dad, Aunt, and I we could sure put a hurt on those clams.

When I moved to NH fall 2011, Mom and Dad were at the home inspection, and they both gave me the thumbs up. When Dad saw the brook near the house his words were " this is heaven".

When I met my now wife, Dad was there in conversation. When I brought Emily home for the first time , Dad knew she was the one.
Dad made it to our wedding 7/30/2016, as difficult as it was for him and my Mom. I remember his voice leading up to the wedding, "I am not going to miss my Bumpy's wedding" " I will see you there Bump".
I still remember his smile when I escorted mom to sit down with him in the front row on that beautiful day. I remember the hug I gave him and the kiss on the cheek. We always hugged, never a handshake between my Dad and I.

When my announced to my Dad in October 2016 that my wife was pregnant, I still remember my Dad's "Wow"! He gushed that he was going to be a grandfather. He still is. His memory and spirit, will live on.

Mr Lavoy was an excellent Boy Scout leader. He introduced me to venison and I still remember learning how to track deer in the middle of the night. I have shown My own children how he showed me how to build a fire with just one match. He was a great friend to my father and I will always cherish the moments I had with him.

Don(ny).
