Olive Winifred (Rood) Ruppen, 89, of Windham Center passed away peacefully Saturday, December 22nd. Born April 14, 1929 in Windham, the daughter of Horace and Florence (Rathburn) Rood. Olive was a 1947 graduate of Windham High School. In her early years she was a Sunday School teacher at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Windham Center. Beloved mother and a stay at home mom, Olive was filled with laughter, smiles, and love for her family and friends. She would never miss a family gathering or a little league game. Olive was passionate about gardening, making Christmas wreaths and decorating her home for the holidays, making every holiday special. She is survived by three children, Jeffrey Ruppen and his wife Jo Ann of Deland, FL, Carol Kassman and her husband Ray of Windham and David Ruppen of Windham; a daughter-in-law Joanne Ruppen of Southwick, MA. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Jennifer Sarafin of Clemson, SC, Jessica Ruppen of Deland, FL and Sarah Kassman of Windham; two great grandchildren, Anika and Ethan Sarafin; a sister Agnes Franklin of Scotland and a sister-in-law Joann Kaczorowski of Glendale, AZ; a cousin Barry Emmons of Windham and many nieces and nephews. Olive was predeceased by her husband James of 56 years and her eldest son Dr. James A. Ruppen. Calling hours will be held Thursday, December 27th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195), Willimantic. A service will be held Friday, December 28th at 12:30p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 27 Plains Road, Windham Center with interment following in Windham Center Cemetery.
