Dear Mary and family,
It is an honor to have had Vernon as a friend and he will be sorely missed. We know that he had a favorable impact on a large number of people, many of whom can thank him for life-changing transformations. He was also great company, as we remember from the gatherings of our small group of Eastern people who would renew old friendships annually at some local restaurant.

Dear Mary and Family:
I grew up with Vernon in Kansas.We attended Berryton High School together and played together on the Berryton Buffalos football and baseball teams. We both attended the Richland Evangelical United Brethern church and were active in the youth group. We visited several times at high school reunions thru the years. Vernon was a devoted man for God,intelligent,caring, loving and committed. He was a good man,a true christian who has made the world a better place. Praise God for his life and celebrate his passing to heaven ! Love, Charles and Carol

Please accept my condolences for the passing of Vernon. I knew him from my early days at Eastern Connecticut State University. He was someone who always had time to answer questions from a very junior faculty member. I appreciated his insights and thoughts on a wide variety of academic topics.

I have never personally met Mr.Phelps but I feel as if I have known him forever through Erin. I know that he was a kind man with a big heart. He loved his family unconditionally and would do anything that was needed to take care of them. I loved getting to know him through the memories of my sweet friend. Please let God comfort her in this sad time.
