Terrific Coach. Nice person and very connected to his students and players. He made life fun and filled it with memories. I'm saddened by his departure but enriched by the time spent with him which were joyous.

Dear Jeanie, Lauren, Lynn and family, I am so sad to hear about your loss. I remember Rich so well from our days at Windham—-always a light in the world, and one of the most giving people I’ve ever known. His smile was deep, with such a twinkle in his eyes! Rich’s warmth touched everyone around him. He defined “passion to win,” but it was never personal. I know he’s made a difference in so many lives, and his memory will be a legacy in the memories of everyone lucky enough to know him. I remember how much he loved his Jeanie. My heart goes out to you all. Lynne

Pam and I were very saddened to here of Rich's death this past week. I came to know Rich during my years at ECSU (1968-72). I was a teammate of Rich's on the basketball and baseball teams and remember him as a great teammate and friend. His sense of humor was second to none and his positive attitude was infectious. We had a lot of fun and success back then and I know the rest of his life was filled with love and accomplishments. I hope Jean and family know that Rich was respected and appreciated by all who knew him. My memories of Rich will help me move forward and live the rest of my life with joy and vigor. I look forward to a "pick up" basketball game in heaven with Rich. Rest In Peace Rich Gary Kinel (ECSU 72')

I am so very sorry to see this sad news about a kind teacher my own age. Mr. LaVecchia taught our daughter at LOLMS 2000-2001 -- a smiling presence with wild and colorful ties, very approachable to parents. Our sympathy to his whole family--daughters and Dads share such a special bond. So sorry for your loss. Michele and Michael Dickey

To Jean and Family, I am so sorry to hear of Rich's passing. My time spent (1986-1997) teaching with Rich at Lyme-Old Lyme Middle school was certainly full of laughter. When I left LOLMS, my friendship with Rich and the other teachers continued through dinners, sporting events and phone calls. He loved talking about you and the girls. He was so proud of all of you. Unfortunately in time we lost touch, but I have wonderful memories. I send to you and your family my heartfelt condolences. I am proud to say I knew, worked and socialized with Rick. Best teacher

I am so saddened to hear of Mr. L's passing.  He was such a wonderful teacher and I always felt at ease in his class.  I was a shy young girl very intimidated by science and he really made it fun.  I have a vague memory of him being sort of buddies with my LA teacher Mr. Desautels.  I had spent some of my career as a teacher and it was because of teachers like Mr. L and others who truly love what they do and appreciate what there students are capable of.  Thank you for your years of teaching Mr. L and I know you will truly be missed by many

Teammate Will Be Missed

Dear Jean and all Family members,

I am so very sorry you have lost such a wonderful Man/Husband/Father/Brother/Grandfather as Richie was to you all. For me, he was my ECSC baseball teammate and friend. On the Southern trips and all other out of state games, I roomed with Richie, Lenny Reed, and the late "Captain"Al Haberern. I have such fond memories of those years. Those guys became my away-from-home brothers. Richie could imitate the voices of W.C.Fields and Groucho Marks, which made us laugh hysterically.  He was our third baseman, leading hitter on the '73 team, and respected by all of us.

Thank you for allowing Lenny and I to say our good-byes to Richie, while he could still hear us. I have no doubt you will all carry him in your hearts for the rest of your lives. May God give you His comfort and peace.

Sincerely,

Don Richmond
