My wife and I were so very saddened to hear of Herndon’s passing. We live next door and became friends – Herndon was always watching out to make sure we were ok and vice versa. His friendliness and humor were so warming. Our neighborhood will not be the same without Herndon.

So sorry to hear of Herndon's passing. He was a great guy. I was his partner at an MRT class at MTS. Nobody else wanted to be his partner. I'm glad I was and glad that I met him. RIP

RIP Herndon. A nice guy with a good sense of humor. First met him in the Human Rights office at MTS in 1977/78. Talked with him when I worked the switchboard over time on 2nd/3rd shift in the Brown Bldg. when he was the PS on call to make sure the bldg. was secure. Great guy who will be missed.

I worked with Herndon for many years at MTS. He was a great friend, a constant support, and one of the funniest people I knew. Condolences to all of Herndon's family and close friends. Rest in peace my friend. Arlene LaBua, Rhode Island

My deepest condolences to Herndon's family. Herndon has been a family friend and best friend to my Mother Joanne Roberge for 33 years. I've known him and spent a lot of great times with him since I was 13 (now 44) since he lived in his condo in Storrs. Our family has been numb needless to say since his passing. There are some losses we can "accept" while others like this one are too painful to discuss. We wanted more time with him, everyone did. His personality, humor and ability to tell a story are unmatched by anyone I know. We had our personal jokes and shared many of the same interests. Each Holiday there were times I couldn't wait for our company to leave so my Mom and I could make a good delivery to him and spending late hours visiting. No matter how tired we were we were never too tired to visit him. I can never thank you enough Herndon for the friendship we had. No one can ever compare to you. Your obituary and my note are such small depictions of what you were. A novel would only be good enough to suit you. My sons Drew and Zander will miss visiting you after school running in your yard, watching cartoons and making them laugh. Zander was upset because he said so innocently "So we can't visit Uncle Herndon anymore?" I wish you would have let me buy you that watch and bring you to New Haven for dinner but I'm sure my Mom is upset she didn't get a chance to bake you another batch of peanut butter cookies! Watch over us as I know you will.
