Pat and Connie:

So sorry to read of your dad's passing. I always enjoyed seeing him when he came to the office, even when he called me "Dr. Schrager"! You have a great role model and that is all one can ask for. May the good memories sustain you. Be well. SLS

I had the great good fortune to interview George Tomecko for The Chronicle in the 1990s and also got to know his wife, Dorothy, a remarkable woman, as well. I was very moved by their talk about what George endured, and how long it took for the health care industry to recognize something that would become known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I also remember George telling me about working in a factory side by side with a Japanese woman whose first name, as it turns out, was Tomeko (not sure of the spelling, but it was pronounced the same as Tomecko). As the obituary points out, he didn't seem to bear any ill will toward the Japanese, despite what was done to him. I am so honored to have met this man.
