Tom and I were stunned to learn of Art's passing. Both our boys had him as their 8th grade History Teacher. They both spoke highly of him then and now. We would later meet him at Bigelow Hollow State Park where we spent many summer days with ours sons Tom And Tim. Many years later we moved from Manchester to Chaplin only to find that Art lived less then 2 miles from us. We always beeped the horn and waved to Art as we drove by, since he was always keeping up the homestead to perfection. Much more recent in time I would run into Art as he would walk his beloved dog Honey near our home. We would chat of some of his lost colleges , old students and of the changes that school teachers now have to deal with. He spoke highly of you and Ryan. He would say he was going to Texas to visit Ryan as soon as the temperature there would be more comfortable. I hope he made it ! We will miss him. Tom & Denise Mozzer

Art worked diligently, taking meticulous care of BigeLow Hollow State Park for many years. It is a beautiful park and we all have Art to thank for that. I had fun working with him there as a seasonal. After working together we stayed friends and enjoyed many more good times and lots of laughs together.

So sorry to hear about Art. Worked with him at E.O. Smith. Everyone he touched had nothing but good to say about Art. It was my privilege to know him. Ralph P

Sorry to hear this news - I loved my afternoon conversations with Art when he joined us at the EOS Depot Campus. I have much respect for him and know he will be missed; he even turned me into a little bit of a Giants fan.
Love to his family and friends,
Brad Martin

Dear Jana and Ryan,
We were so sorry to read about Art's passing. He was such a generous, loving person. From the time we first met him (and you all ) 39 years ago, he struck us as someone who would always be a friend. What great memories - especially of pigs (and donuts!) and sheep. His generosity certainly extended to the community with his willingness to help out with Joshua's Trust - steward at Church Farm and the Atwood Farm Committee, as well as any special requests (Art - can you please take the trash to the dump? Art, can you pick up the table at the Mansfield festival?). We will miss his smile, his funny stories, his generosity, his unselfishness. Our deepest sympathy.

Dear Jana. Art was so special and a great fellow. He now has his reward. He's alive and we'llsee him again. I remember going with you to dana faber for his treatments. Len and i have had the privilege of knowing you both for many years. He will be missed. The Lord will now be your husband and take care of you. The Lord's blessing be upon you and your family

I was a student of Mr.Mccann when I was in the 8th grade in 1975-76 at Bennet Jr High School.History classes were fun and never dull.He was my homeroom teacher as well and got me interested in the NFL, at times talking about his fondness for the New York Giants and his dislike for the Washington Redskins.I also bumped into him several times at Bigelow state park and we had great conversations. He was one of my favorite teachers even after high school and college and I always have great memories of him.Very sorry for your loss.

Dear Jana and family
I am so heartsick about Art's passing. He just emailed me last week talking about our upcoming class reunion. He was a lifelong friend filled with wit, humor and love. He was a humble man whose greatest joy seemed to be making others happy. He was a gifted teacher, devoted husband and father. I loved when he referred to you as 'my girlfriend '. You were his rock! I will miss our monthly eamails that made me laugh and that were filled with fond rememberances of our school days. The Glastonbury High class of 1962 will not be the same without 'Artie' but we will meet again. Ginny Rupy

I had the pleasure of knowing Art from my days as his student at Bennet Junior High(1972-75) and spending countless hours sitting together in the DEEP truck in the Mashapaug parking lot at Bigelow Hollow State Park. Art is my favorite teacher of all time. He treated me with respect and was also a caring teacher. I was impressed in how he remembered every student who crossed his classroom threshold and could recall their names. Art was just a great guy and has always had my respect, RIP Art, time to knock a few soldiers back. My condolences to his wife and son, and family.
