William Liberator Obituary

William S. Liberator of Windham, CT passed away peacefully on July 21, 2020. Bill was born on July 6, 1928 in Dedham, MA to Dominick Liberator and Sarah (Feeney) Liberator. He was raised in the Boston area by caring parents and his aunt, Maimey Feeney. He was a graduate of Boston College High School and continued his Catholic education at Saint Michael’s College from which he graduated with honors. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during the Allied occupation of the Pacific from 1946-1948. On June 27, 1953 he married Nan Mary Hogan and together they raised their family largely in Avon, CT. Bill and Nan were married until 1980. For years Bill worked in the insurance industry, for the Connecticut General Insurance Company and later the Saint Paul Insurance Company. He earned the CLU designation and was recognized on numerous occasions for outstanding sales. Later, he developed a successful career in the office products business. Bill was deeply religious, very bright and well read-always a student of history. He was a great storyteller with a good sense of humor. Bill made friends easily and was a loyal and close friend to many. Shirley Olsen of Vernon, CT was a close companion for more than 25 years. Bill and Shirley loved to explore the great outdoors-spending their time bird watching, hiking, canoeing and biking throughout the US and abroad. Bill loved the Boston Red Sox, UConn soccer and UConn Women’s basketball. He also took great pride in the successes of his four children and nine grandchildren. Bill is survived by his four children: Paul A. Liberator, his wife Sharyn, and their children Cole (and wife Sheena), Alyx and Rylie; John D. Liberator and his children Joey, Allie (and husband Oscar) and Nick; Grace M. Liberator and her daughter Jennifer; and Ann Liberator-Jimenez, her husband Luis, and their children Julian and Aidan. He is also survived by his sister in law Dotty Liberator, four great grandchildren (Lucca, Kai, Caiden and Easton), as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his brother Andrew Liberator, Shirley Olsen, Laurie B. Liberator and Nan H. Liberator. His memorial services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bill’s memory to Saint Michael’s College, One Winooski Park, Colchester, VT 05439, or The National Audubon Society, 225 Varick Street, New York, NY 10014.
