Virginia “Ginny” Jean (Thompson) Shepardson of Storrs, CT passed away on January 23, 2022, with her daughters and beloved caregiver, Cheryl Carasone, at her side. Ginny was a fighter from the very beginning until she took her last breath. She was born April 16, 1931, in Johnson, VT to Madge and Glenn Thompson. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Samuel Shepardson; their daughter, Wendy, who died shortly after her birth; her sister, Eleanor Milo; and many others whom she so cherished.
She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She leaves behind her proudest legacy: daughter Deborah Singer and husband Jerome of Granby, CT; daughter Carrie Novak and husband Daniel of Templeton, MA and their three children - Anthony (wife Aubree, children Charlie, Jensen, Darren), Timothy (wife Laura, daughter Margot), and Kaylin (husband Nick, children Jasey and Easton); and daughter Kim Watson and husband Harry of Groton, CT and their three children – Hannah, Luke (fiancé Audrey), and Sam (wife Allie).
No one was ever a stranger after meeting Ginny. She had a knack of making everyone feel welcomed and part of the family and “adopted” many. Specifically, Susan and Eli Morton, Kate Andrews, Joe and Joey Maciolek, Wayne Osborne, Eric Lebron, and her family at Mansfield Baptist Church. She also was a proud aunt, cousin, and friend.
Ginny was infamous for baking bread and for her baked beans. She loved to feed anyone and everyone that entered her doors. She loved to chat, reminisce, and tell stories … and seriously could she tell you stories. Her strong faith in Christ was a big influence in her life, where she embodied love and compassion in everything she did.
The family would like to specifically recognize Dr. Sandra Hughes for her compassionate care, as well as those who crossed Ginny’s path at Mansfield Rehabilitation and Windham Hospital for their loving support over the past 8 years.
Donations to be made to The First Baptist Church of Mansfield (PO Box 706, 945 Storrs Rd. Storrs, CT 06268) in honor of Ginny Shepardson.
The family is planning a celebration of life in April of 2022.
