Timothy Barr Obituary

Timothy Brian Barr, 36, of Willimantic, CT passed away on November 28, 2022. He was born in Manchester, CT, the son of Carol Millette and the late Brian Barr.

What follows are excerpts from a Drug Overdose Prayer for Victims and Families which was written for families to use for memorials and funerals. Thank you, Patricia Evans (Tim’s maternal aunt), for finding this for us. Addiction is a chronic disease with no cure, although it is possible to live in recovery. Relapsing is an ongoing struggle. It does not occur because of moral weakness, a lack of willpower or an unwillingness to stop.

Dear God - We come to you grieving with broken hearts over the loss of Tim, who has become the victim of an overdose. Our sorrow knows no depths as we consider the preciousness of the life lost and the cruelty of the addiction that robbed Tim of a good life and caused his death. We feel helpless because we have been robbed of huge pieces of our own life and our future by this merciless disease.

We choose to affirm the goodness and sacredness of the life of Tim. We hold on to our love for him, even through the pain. We pray that you will remove all traces of regret, guilt and shame from our hearts and minds. We pray for your forgiveness and mercy over every difficult incident between us and Tim that was caused by the addiction. You know the road we have walked and how often we have felt that we should be doing one more thing to help, prevent or rescue. We lay this entire journey at your feet believing that we did the best we could and that this is all that you ask of us.

We pray that you will give us the ability to honor the memory of Tim and that we might celebrate his victories big and small. Help us to memorialize the enormous accomplishment of Tim’s ability to live under the heavy burden of addiction.

In addition to his mom, he is survived by his sons, Michael and Matthew, and their mother, Elizabeth Trosell; his sister Sara Foran and her husband Teran Loeppke and their children Zoe and Simon; stepfather Laurence Druckenbrod and stepsister Holly Havens; maternal grandmother Jeanette Millette; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Tim was predeceased by his father and his maternal grandfather Joseph Eugene Millette and paternal grandparents William and Helen Barr.

Tim was a skilled automotive technician who loved to work on cars. He enjoyed skiing, kayaking, watching football and playing baseball as a child (forever a Yankees fan). He loved his family with all his heart and above all was a kind and generous person.

There will be no calling hours. Timothy’s funeral service will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to his family.
