Suzanne S. (Desautels) Tormey

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Suzanne Desautels Tormey, 88, of Columbia, CT, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She passed away peacefully with family at her side January 19, 2021. Suzanne was born in Sherbrooke, Canada on September 19, 1932 to the late Leonard and Yvonne (Blais) Desautels, and immigrated to the U.S. when she was 13. She had 17 brothers and sisters, and their first initials spelled out “Jesus Mary Joseph” (there were two sets of twins that shared a letter. She was the S in Joseph).

Suzanne worked at American Thread until she went into Real Estate working for Fireside and Century 21 where she excelled. She was given a million-dollar sales award during her real estate career. Suzanne has touched the lives of so many with her unconditional love, generosity and kindness. She will be forever missed.

She was predeceased by the love of her life, her loving husband Charlie in 2010. They were married for 59 years. Suzanne leaves behind her son Michael (Cathy) Tormey and daughters Denise (Scott) Duplisea and Joanne (Steve) Frederick. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren Tina, Michael, Valerie, Brian, Steve, Jennifer and Amanda; along with her beloved great grandchildren Chloe, Blake, Charlie, Mackenzie and Myron.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at St. Mary Church, 46 Valley St., Willimantic. The service will be live streamed from the funeral homes’ website for those that cannot attend. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham.
