Stephen A. Whyte (Planchon)

Stephen Allen (Planchon) Whyte, 85, of Plainfield, CT passed away on November 12, 2023. He was born in Willimantic, CT, the son of the late Stephen and Dorothy (Wilson) Whyte.

He was a life member of Sprague Rod & Gun Club and the Polish Club. Stephen was also a life member of the VFW Post 1724 of Willimantic, where he was a bartender for 20 years and the post chaplain for 14 years. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Lebanon Conflict in 1958 aboard the Carrier Saratoga CVA60 with the attack squadron VA 75 after four years. He worked as an Iron Worker for 15 years in many different states building smokestacks out of Chicago.

He is survived by his daughter Tammy Ann Planchon, sisters Kathy (Gervais) Coderre, Annette Backstrand, Lisa LaRochelle, Ruthie, and Suzie, nephews Larry, Kenneth, and Allen Gervais, great nieces and nephews, and former wives Carolyn Shields and Evelyn Pogwist. He was predeceased by his sister Lucy and nephews Ronald and David Gervais.

There will be no calling hours. His graveside service will be on Monday, November 20, 2023 at 1:00pm at Palmertown Cemetery in Scotland, CT.
