Ronald Carlton Rock, known affectionately as Ron, passed away on August 27, 2023, in Hampton, CT. Born on January 21, 1947, in Plattsburgh, NY, Ron's life was defined by his faith and his love for his family.
Ron was a graduate of Mount Assumption High School, where he cultivated a love for learning and developed the skills that would serve him well in his future career. Following his high school graduation, Ron served his country as a proud member of the United States Navy. His time in the service was a testament to his courage, commitment, and patriotism.
Upon his return from the service, Ron embarked on a thirty-year successful career at General Dynamics Electric Boat serving in various capacities but eventually retiring as an engineer. His colleagues often remarked on his dedication, his meticulous attention to detail, and his knack for problem-solving. Ron was not only a skilled engineer but also a mentor to many young professionals entering the field.
Despite his many accomplishments, Ron always said that his greatest joy came from his family. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Hayden) Rock and the proud father of their three daughters: Tammy (Rock) Crowell (Robert Crowell), Angela (Rock) Piela, and Michelle Rock. Ron's love for his family extended to his nine grandchildren: Kirsten Crowell, Dylan Cooper, Kyle Piela, Nicholas Crowell, Amanda Piela, Isabella Martin, Kaitlin Crowell, Ava Piela, and Noah Crowell. He was also looking forward to becoming a great-grandfather to Oliver, expected to arrive in mid-September.
Ron's love for his family was matched only by his love for the outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, Ron found peace and tranquility in nature. He passed on this love to his children and grandchildren, creating countless memories on family camping trips and fishing adventures. He also had a soft spot for his beloved fur babies, whose company he enjoyed immensely.
Those who knew Ron will remember him as a faith-filled man, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was a handyman, not just in his profession but in his everyday life, always willing to assist a neighbor with a home repair or a family member with a project. His loving nature was apparent in his warm smile, his hearty laugh, and his generous spirit.
Ron leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication. He was a pillar of strength to his family, a dependable colleague to his peers, and a loyal friend to many. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his life will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
