Roderick Marion Obituary

Roderick Z. Marion, 84, of Scotland, CT passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on January 15, 2024. He was born in Jewitt City, CT, and grew up in Plainfield CT, he was the son of the late Roderick A. and Rose (Williams) Marion.

In 1960 he married Muriel and resided in Scotland where he became a member of The Scotland Volunteer Fire Department (45 yrs.) where he was an EMT and a Search and Rescue Diver.

He had a love of motorcycles and was a member of the Blue Knights and The New London Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed riding with them for many years.

He had many interests and hobbies, stock car racing, go-kart racing, scuba diving, kayaking, riding his Gold Wing motorcycle, attending UConn basketball games, traveling the country, and visiting Nova Scotia that was a special place for him. He was always planning his next trip.

He was dedicated to helping others and providing for his family and was always there for his children. Rod was a hard worker.  He proudly built he and Muriel’s first home and current home. He was happy to help his friends with whatever they needed, whether it’s helping them with farm work or fixing a truck or sawing wood it didn’t matter. He liked to keep busy. He enjoyed talking with everyone he met. He had a good sense of humor which he shared throughout his last days.

He had a special bond with his Boston Terriers, they were always by his side, going everywhere he went, even going on the kayak with him, sitting on his lap or cuddling up next to him.

When he joined the work force, he worked for various companies until 1969. He was employed by the Potter’s Oil Company as a Service Technician and Oil Delivery Driver for 40 years until his retirement in 2009.
