Roberta E. (Gale) Mateo

Roberta Evelyn (Gale) Mateo, 68, of Willimantic, died Thursday, October 1, 2020 at St. Rapheal’s Hospital, New Haven, CT.  She was born in Raleigh, NC on March 12, 1952 to the late Robert B. and Mary L. (Pettiford) Gale. Roberta and her family moved to Willimantic when she was 6, where she spent most of her schooling and education years at Windham Public Schools.  She later was employed at Windham Memorial Hospital in the Central Supply Department.  Roberta then met her late husband, Jose Anibal Mateo.  She enjoyed working for the Custodial Department at Eastern Connecticut State University for many years where she retired.

Roberta is survived by a son Robert Mateo of East Hartford, CT; two sister, Mary Louise Lopes of Richmond, VA., and Adelaide Lee of East Haven, CT; a brother, Joseph Gale of Greenville, Miss.

She was predeceased by her eldest sister Rosa Word.  Roberta’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, October 8, 2020 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic.  A graveside service will be held at 11:30am at the New Willimantic Cemetery, Willimantic.
