Robert K. Zemantic Sr., 93, of Columbia CT, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 following a short illness. Bob was born on January 9, 1928 in Hartford CT, the son of the late Michael A. and Theresa G. (Zelonka) Zemantic. He was raised in Hartford and graduated from Our Lady of Sorrows School in 1941, and from Hartford Public High School in 1945. Shortly thereafter he enlisted in the U.S Army. His family originally resided in Collinsville, CT later moving to Hartford and West Hartford.
Bob and his wife Patricia moved to Columbia, CT in 1962, where they raised their two sons. Bob was active in the Columbia Little League as a coach to the Cardinal team for many years and served as President for the Columbia Amateur Ice Hockey Association for a term. Bob especially enjoyed instructing new hockey skaters. He was fondly known as “Mr. Z.”
Bob also enjoyed Polka dancing, the beach, traveling with his wife, and spending warm summer days with his grandchildren by his pool. Bob was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Bob was employed by Pratt and Whitney, Division of United Technologies, retiring after 33 years of service as a General Foreman.
In addition to his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia (Jones) Zemantic, he is survived by their son Robert K. Zemantic Jr., wife Judy of Columbia and their sons Ryan and Tyler; son William M. Zemantic of Columbia and his children Patricia (husband Dwyer Arce), Michaela, Daniel and Andrew.
Bob was predeceased by his brothers Frank, Michael, Edward, and sister Margaret Justin. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Lebanon, CT in the spring.
