Robert Jenkins, 85, of North Windham, CT died May 9, 2022.
Bob was born in Great Barrington, MA to Jennie (Trepczynski) and Weston Jenkins, Jr. on August 19, 1937. He was a graduate of Gilbert High School in Winsted, CT and spent 4 years active duty in the USAF Strategic Air Command (1955-1959). Upon discharge he began a career in journalism as a reporter for the Hartford Courant covering Winsted and the surrounding towns. He was a sportswriter for the Torrington Register, and after moving to Mansfield, reported for the Hartford Courant Willimantic Bureau. Bob then became a reporter for the Willimantic Chronicle, and finally managing editor.
He went on to a long career in Connecticut politics working on the campaigns of CT Second District congressmen Robert Steele and Sam Gejdenson. He also served as the executive assistant in the newly created Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. He was executive assistant to 4 successive First Selectmen/Mayors of Windham. From 1989-2009 he was involved in a family-owned business sponsoring baseball card and autograph shows around the country and every summer at The Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elsie (Holmes) Jenkins, His daughters Carol (Dan) Sirkovich, Therese (Bruce) John, son-in-law Harry Melkonian. Grandchildren Mia (Joshua)Pomerenke, Emma John, Zev Sirkovich, Eitan Sirkovich, Kenna Melkonian, and Ian Melkonian. Great grandchildren Logan, Kali, Parker, and Greta Pomerenke. He was predeceased by his eldest daughter, Lucretia (Jenkins) Melkonian, and his sister, Beverly (Jenkins) Odell
