Richard “Dick” David Gyure, 76, of Columbia, CT passed away December 5, 2022 after a brief battle with Lymphoma. Dick was born on September 30, 1946 to Charles and Johanna (Janas) Gyure in Willimantic, CT. After Dick graduated from Windham Technical School in 1964 he started his career in the manufacturing industry as a tool and die maker and advancing to tool room foreman.
In 1961, Dick met Joanne Chesters when she moved next door. They were married for 56 years and have two children, David of Ellington, CT and Kevin of Vernon, CT.
During Dick’s retirement he enjoyed his time sailing and metal detecting. Dick was President of the Windham Tech Alumni Association, President of the Northeast Shrine Club and a 25 year member of Masons Uriel Lodge No. 24.
He is survived by his wife Joanne, sons David and Kevin, sister Joanne Gyure Parnell and sister-in-law Christine Gyure; two grandchildren, Olivia and Nicholas. Dick was predeceased by brothers Charles, Edward and Dean.
Dick’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic. His funeral service will be on Monday, December 12, 2022 at 11:00am at Columbia First Congregational Church, 325 CT-87 Columbia, CT 06237, burial to follow at the West Street Cemetery, Columbia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Shriners Children’s Hospital, an organization Dick felt strongly about.
