Richard Osborne Obituary

Richard Alan Osborne, 67, of Andover, CT, died peacefully at home on April 4, 2020.

Rick was born in Hartford, CT on February 16, 1953 and lived all his life in Andover, CT.

He was always a hard worker.  Growing up, he worked on his grandfather’s gladiola farm in Bolton, CT in the summer.  During high school he worked at Ken’s Garage in Andover, CT which started his lifelong passion of working on cars.  After graduating from RHAM High School in 1971, he went to Ford Auto Mechanic School in Waltham, MA and then began working at Fitzgerald Ford in Rockville, CT.  He then changed careers and worked as a computer room operator and programmer, first at Connecticut Mutual Insurance Company and then at The Hartford Insurance Company. After retiring from The Hartford, he kept busy working at Columbia Ford and Auto Zone.    For the last five years he was a golf course maintenance worker at Blackledge Country Club in Hebron, CT where he enjoyed being outside and hanging out with his friends.

Rick always loved spending time outside.  For several years he owned a small cabin cruiser and had fun with family and friends sailing around Long Island Sound.  He eventually downsized to kayaking and enjoyed paddling local lakes and ponds with his wife, Caren.  Even though Rick loved being home and relaxing in his own backyard, he was always ready to travel as long as there was water or mountains nearby.  Together with Caren, he traveled out west, around New England and to Paris and Australia.  His favorite place was Key West, FL where he realized his dream of piloting a PT boat.

Rick’s favorite pastime was spending time in his garage working on antique cars, Jeeps and his prized possession, a 1967 Firebird convertible.  He was very proud of restoring a friend’s 1969 AMX a few years ago.  He would never tire of telling friends about all the older cars he owned and restored.

Rick is survived by his loving wife Caren Saphirstein Osborne, his daughter Jessica D’Onofrio of Amherst, MA, his mother Virginia Covell Osborne of Andover, CT, his sister Cheryl St. Pierre and her husband Russell of Bolton, CT, his step-daughter Alison Moseley and her husband Edward of Chapel Hill, NC, his grandchildren Braelynn, Noah Mia, Charlie and Oliver, his nephew Michael St. Pierre and his wife Hilary, his nieces Lauren Bennett and her husband John, and Leah St. Pierre and her finance Timothy Jordan, and many good friends.  He was pre-deceased by his father Richard C Osborne.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Volunteer Fire Department in Andover, CT.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
