Richard E. Jefferson, 67, of Columbia, CT passed away unexpectedly on May 20, 2021. He was born in New Milford, CT on November 21, 1953 to Edward N. and Mary S. (Starkey) Jefferson. Richard’s greatest passion was spending time outdoors. He enjoyed being around nature and working in his yard. He loved good cooking and always had an appetite. Richard enjoyed music and was a self-taught master with the guitar. He also loved bicycling when he was younger, it was his preferred mode of transportation. Richard enjoyed watching many different sports, especially wrestling. Richard was a gentle soul. In addition to living in Connecticut, he lived and worked in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for 30 years. Richard is survived by his sister, whom he lived with, Ellen Jefferson Bell. He is survived by his cousin, Thomas Starkey and his wife Sulma Fuentes of Glasco, CT; and other members of the Starkey family of Norwalk, CT; Rose Starkey of Deerfield Beach, FL; Wendy Madden and her family of Boxford, MA; and other relatives in Ohio and Maryland. Richard is also survived by his longtime best friend from childhood, Roger Agard and Nancy of Kent, CT. He was preceded in death by his parents. His Funeral Mass will be July 10, 2021 at 11:00am at St. Columba Church in Columbia, CT. His burial will follow at West St. Cemetery in Columbia, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Richard's name may be sent to the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department 167 Route 66 P.O. Box 26 Columbia, CT 06237.
