Richard C. Gaynor, known affectionately as “Dickie” to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024, in Storrs, Connecticut. Born on June 12, 1935, in Winthrop, Massachusetts, Dickie was the son of the late Alan and Leah Gaynor. He was a devoted husband, loving father, doting grandfather, and proud great-grandfather.
He shared 63 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Eleanore. He is survived by his sister-in-law Barbara Warren, children Anita Parkhurst and her husband Dan, Walter Gaynor and his partner Robin, Sandra Gaynor, and Richard Gaynor II, his grandchildren, Eric Parkhurst, Rachel Parkhurst, Ryan Gaynor, Dana Vogler, and Caitlyn Gaynor, and his great-grandchildren, Emma, Austin, Bradley, Skylar, and Holden.
Dickie was proud of his service in the US Army as a Helicopter Mechanic during the Korean Conflict. Following his service, he worked with Eastern Airlines and TWA, until his retirement.
As a young man, he loved sailing with his father and brothers and after his retirement he enjoyed fishing, making aluminum airplanes, and painting. However, it was the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren that brought him the most joy.
Services will be private.
