Raymond Colwell Obituary

Raymond W. Colwell, 95, of South Windham, CT died on Monday, November 11, 2019. Born May 6, 1924 in Providence, R.I., son of the late George R. and Emily (Mitchell) Colwell.

He attended the University of Rhode Island and was a graduate of Spartan School of Aeronautics. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Force as a gunner on B-29’s in the Pacific Theater. He was employed by United Technologies, Hamilton Standard Division for 33 years as a Technical Representative with extensive travel throughout the world, and as a Technical Writer.  Following his retirement, he was involved in antique automobile restoration.

Raymond is survived by his sons Theodore (Eileen) Colwell of South Windham and Randall (Bonnie) Colwell of Tolland; four grandchildren Adrienne (Brian) Plourde, Meredith (Ian) Swisher, Ryan (Shelby) Colwell, and Sarah (John) DeLuca; six great-grandchildren Cameron and Olivia Plourde, Alexa and Taelyn Colwell, and Adalyn and Logan DeLuca; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Althea (Andrews); and siblings George F. and Rachel Colwell.

His graveside service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 12 noon at Windham Center Cemetery, 219 Windham Center Road, Windham, CT.   Memorial donations in Raymond’s name are suggested to Guilford Smith Memorial Library 17 Main St, South Windham, CT 06266.  To sign the online memorial guestbook please visit www.potterfuneralhome.com
