On August 29, 2021 Mary Lu Klosowski (Peene) passed away at the age of 78. Mary Lu was born in South Windham, Connecticut to the late Chester and Dorothy (Morgan) Peene. Mary Lu was predeceased by Thomas, her loving husband of 54 years. She is survived by her sisters Elizabeth Melvin of Columbia and Marjorie Peene of Colchester, her brother in-law Frank Klosowski Jr. of South Windsor, and her sister-in-law Katherine Klosowski of Shelton, Connecticut.
Together Mary Lu and Tom raised two daughters, Judy Keeney (David) of Hampton, and Joy Reardon of Meriden, as well as two sons, James Klosowski (Marianne) of Ridgefield, and John Klosowski (Lauren) of Killingly. “Grammy” is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Brian, Daniel, Megan, Caroline, Sara, Adam, Erin, and Andrew and was predeceased by four sisters Barbara, Eleanor, Mildred, and Vivian, and a brother, William.
Mary Lu was a graduate of Windham High School and the University of Connecticut, earning a degree in Education. Mary Lu worked in the Windham school system for many years. She also enjoyed volunteering for St. Joseph’s Women’s Club and sewing group as well as taking long walks with Tom and spending time with her grandchildren, sisters, and close friend Carmen.
Calling hours will be on Friday, September 3, 2021 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic, to be followed immediately after by a burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery on Club Rd in Windham. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association or Saint Joseph’s Church in Willimantic, Connecticut.
