Marjorie Mathieu Obituary

Marge Mathieu, 84, of Columbia, in the wee morning hours of June 9, 2020, our beloved wife, mother, sister and aunt slipped into the arms of our Lord by complications from congestive heart failure.  Born on November 28, 1935 she was the cherished daughter of Edmund and Theresa (Durand) Viner.  Born and raised in Willimantic, graduating from Windham High School in 1953.  On April 16, 1955, Marge married the love of her life, Edward Mathieu, who was by her side as she passed.  Together they raised four children - Deborah (Steve) Byers of New Your City; John (Susan) Mathieu of Tolland, CT;  Mary Arsenault of Willimantic; and Michael Mathieu of Columbia, CT.  In later years, Marge and Ed were blessed with seven grandchildren- Shelby and Sean Mathieu, Keith Mathieu. Kayla and Kyle Casey, Kevin Arsenault, and Joshua Mathieu, as well as three great grandchildren.  She also leaves behind two sisters and a brother-in-law who will miss her company dearly, Miriam Magnuson and Linda and Lennie Manning, as well as several nieces and nephews.   Marge was predeceased by her parents, sister Jeanne Berry, her in-laws John and Mary Mathieu, and brothers-in-law William Berry and Ross Magnuson. For many years, Marge was employed as a very dedicated teacher's assistant at Windham Center School.  In her senior years, she took great delight in playing bingo, bridge, crazy rummy, knitting, watching UConn girls basketball, vacationing in Vermont with her three sisters, but above all else, enjoying her family.  We are all grateful to have had her in our lives. Marge’s family will receive relatives and friends from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Monday, June 15, 2020 at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic.  A graveside service will be held at 12:30pm at St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.  For
