Marianne Hettinger Asselin, 81, wife of the late Roger A. Asselin, died peacefully, after a long illness, on March, 19, 2020 in Mansfield. She was the daughter of Walter O. Hettinger and Anne (O’Bright) Hettinger. She was born February 10, 1939, in Brooklyn, NY, and was raised in Manchester, CT with her five siblings, Joseph Hettinger, Alice Mellor, Frederica McVeigh, Anne Goodin and Estelle Romano on the family farm. Marianne and her husband raised their six children in Manchester and later moved to North Windham. Marianne spent much of her life as a chef, with the family catering business, at Assumption Rectory and at UConn.
She enjoyed volunteering at her children’s schools, girl scouts and St. Joseph VBS, cake decorating, sewing, crocheting, scrapbooking family history, gardening, crafts and painting. Marianne is survived by her children, Michelle (Micky) Welles and husband Michael, Antoinette (Toni) Asselin, Jacqueline Dimmock and husband Greg, Roger Asselin and wife Rae Ann, Andrew Asselin and wife Nicole and Marianne Seidman and husband Adam; grandchildren, Brian Welles, Matthew Welles, Marie Welles Ramm, Jennifer Dimmock, Devon, Megyn, Taryn, Aydon and Daryn Asselin, Adam, Jillian and Samantha Asselin, Danyelle Stutz, Amanda Maney and Forester McDonald and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her grandson Jeremy Dimmock. In respect of current health concerns, the burial will be private. A Memorial Mass to be held at a future date.
