Lucille Wisted Obituary

After a long struggle with Dementia and Congestive Heart Disease, Lucille Bernard Wisted, age 87, of Manchester, CT passed away peacefully on Saturday June 11, 2022, at Anthology of Farmington in Farmington, CT. Born on February 28, 1935, in Willimantic, CT to Ernest and Antoinette (Gaucher) Bernard, Lucille was the oldest of three daughters. After graduating High School, Lucille entered the Convent in search of a path for higher learning. Following more than ten years in the convent, Lucille chose to leave the service of the church and pursue a master’s degree in education. In 1968 Lucille joined the State of CT Teachers Association. This would be the start of what would become a long and successful career as a beloved teacher in the Windham Public School system. Lucille taught sixth grade at Kramer Middle School for much of her career. She was dedicated to not only the academic success of her students but also their overall health and well-being in and outside of school.

In April of 1970 Lucille married the love of her life, John F. Wisted. Lucille and John established their home of more than 50 years in Manchester, CT.  While Lucille and John did not have children of their own, they doted over their three nieces and one nephew. Throughout their early years Lucille was a consistent and supportive presence. Lucille's warm, caring and generous demeanor instilled a sense of empathy and kindness into her nieces, nephew and all those she encountered. Lucille helped many in need throughout her life having given very generously to many charities and not-for-profit organizations.

After retiring from teaching in 1999 Lucille and John traveled extensively, fully enjoying each other's company as lifelong partners and best friends. In between their many adventures traveling they enjoyed their time with family and their four-legged children. Lucille and John were the proud parents of many dogs including their beloved King Charles Cavalier Spaniels, Charlie and Winston.
