Lucille Jane Preston Bennett, 91, loving mother and grandmother, went peacefully to her just reward on October 11, 2023, in Northridge, California. The youngest child of John and Leuna Preston, she was born in 1932 in Dublin, Erath County, Texas, and was raised on a farm in Post, Garza County, in the midst of the Dust Bowl.
After graduating from Post High School, she joined her sister in Amarillo to work at the Air Force base where she met her late husband, John, to whom she was married for 66 years. They settled in Connecticut, though, Jane always considered herself a Texan first and one could still hear the West Texas twang in her every word. She worked at Windham Hospital as a bookkeeper for nearly forty years and, once retired, spent time on travel and avid reading. In 2019, she saddled up and headed west, leaving the cold New England winters behind to live in sunny southern California. Life truly began at 87 for her, as she frequently traveled up and down the west coast and to Las Vegas, loving the warm weather and indulging her one true guilty pleasure, casino hopping on the Vegas strip.
She will be greatly missed by her four grandchildren, her three children and their spouses, and her friends, old and new. A private service will be held at a later date at Jane’s final resting place, the New Willimantic Cemetery.
