Louise Jeanette (Lamb) Kellough 94, a resident of Willimantic, died while vacationing in California after a short illness on December 23, 2021.
Louise was born July 25, 1927 in Evansville, Indiana, daughter of Louis and Edwina Lamb. A depression era baby, she grew up on a farm where she told stories of her family leaving food for the hungry who would stop at the picnic table outside their farmhouse to rest and refuel. Surrounded by horses, bunnies, chickens, horses and dogs, living in the country inspired her lifelong love of animals.
Musically gifted at a very young age, she went to the train station at the age of 5 with her brothers and sisters to sing for travelers while they passed a hat.
In her late teens, she became a jazz and big band singer where she met her husband of over 30 years, Samuel Kellough, a big band leader.
During World War II, she sang for USO shows, after hours jazz clubs
and continued to work as a vocalist in night clubs for many years.
While married to her musician turned engineer/ executive husband, she was a devoted and loving mother to her three children Larry (deceased), Cheryl, and Michele.
A passionate and talented cook and extremely enthusiastic baker, she was affectionately known as “Grandma Cookies” to her grandchildren.
Over the years, she held a number of positions; she founded LK Originals, a cottage industry clock company, was a paint store manager and a physical therapy assistant.
Louise leaves behind daughter-in-law Mary Kellough of St Augustine, Florida; daughter Cheryl Kellough of Calabasas, California; daughter Michele Lombardi and son-in-law Drew Lombardi of Franklin, Connecticut; two grand children Jackson and Lily; and sisters Patricia DeStefano and brother-in-law Mario De Stefano, and Rosemarie Crane.
