Lawrence E. Lombard, Jr. of Mansfield Center, CT, passed away peacefully at home on May 30, 2023.
Larry was born in Raymond, Maine on July 29, 1952. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Rand) Lombard. Larry graduated from Windham High School in Windham, ME in 1970. He then attended the University of Maine in Orono where he met and fell in love with his wife, Linda. He graduated in 1974 with a degree in biochemistry.
Larry worked at Hillcrest Foods in Maine from 1974 to 1981. At this time, he moved to Connecticut where he worked at Central Connecticut Farmers Association as an assistant manager until his retirement in 2005. In his retirement, he enjoyed running Pleasant Valley Harvest, a strawberry field and produce stand. This venture combined his love of gardening, his gregarious nature, and his desire to be connected to his community.
Larry was incredibly proud to be an active member of the Mansfield Lions Club for 36 years, receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow award, the Lions Club’s highest honor, in March 2022. Larry truly believed in the Lions Club mission to change the world by serving his local community.
Family mattered more than anything to Larry. He leaves behind his wife of 49 years Linda (Lavoie) Lombard. Together, they demonstrated the commitment to stand by each others sides through all of life’s ups and downs. He also leaves two daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth (Libby) Lombard of Vernon, CT, and Shelley and Chris Buonacquisto, of Manchester, CT. His children and his two granddaughters, Charlotte and Alexandra (Ally) Buonacquisto were the highlights of his life. Larry enjoyed being one of five brothers, regaling others with stories of the antics they engaged in growing up. He leaves his brothers: Bradford and wife, Susan, of Falmouth, Maine; sister in law Penny, of Bangor, Maine; and John and wife, Linda, of Veazie, Maine. He was predeceased by his brother Gary and his wife, Jeanne of Portland, Maine and his brother Barry of Bangor, Maine.
Larry deeply loved his family, baseball, dogs, listening to local music, serving the community through his involvement with the Mansfield Lions Club, and working in his gardens. He will be sorely missed.
There will be a private burial later this year. A decision will be made at a later time regarding holding a Celebration of Life in honor of Larry.
