Kevin Horan Obituary

We are heartbroken to let our community know that our beloved Kevin James Horan has died. Known as Haboob to many and father, Jido, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend to all the rest, he leaves a huge hole in our hearts and in our lives. He always laughed and made others laugh with his stories, his crazy antics and even his many health challenges. No matter what life was handing him, he found ways to make light of it and give that light to us.

A paragraph can never sum the impact a person has on our lives but if you met him once, you probably became a friend of his for life. Whether you went to high school with him (Windham Tech), bowled with him (Willi Bowl), worked with him (Windham Hospital) or were lucky enough to be related to him, he made your life better. His caring and nurturing soul was evident in all he did. If you or anyone you knew was in the hospital, you would find Kevin coming by regularly to see what you needed, bring you flowers and ensure you were getting top notch care.

He was a caretaker of people and places. He lit up his yard at Christmas time and our lives all the rest of the year. But his favorite thing in life was being a dad and Jido (grandfather). He raised his daughters, Samm (Jonny) and Nicole (Tony) and loved them to a fault and in these last years, delighted in his grandchildren, Makayla, Olivia, Nikko, and Roy. Along with his siblings, Jeff (Nancy), Mary, and Jim (Cheryl), his nieces and nephew, his uncle and aunts and many, many cousins (the Haddads and ‘Hadnots’) we will miss his smile and humor. He cared for his parents, James and Edna Horan, before they died and we trust he is being greeted by the many uncles, aunts and cousins who left this life before him.

Graveside services will be conducted at the New Willimantic Cemetery on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 1:00pm followed by a gathering at the Windham Club, 184 Club Road, N Windham. All are welcome to join us. Donations can be made in his name to the Windham Hospital Foundation, 112 Mansfield Avenue, Willimantic, CT 06226.
