Jules A. Bessette, 93, of Enfield, CT, husband of the late Noella (Lamothe) Bessette, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021. He was born in Quebec, Canada to the late Arthur and Claudia Bessette.
Jules immigrated from Canada to St. Albans, VT to New London, CT in 1951. In 1974, they moved to Lebanon, CT.
He was active for many years in New London coaching minor league and Babe Ruth baseball and played city league hockey in Canada and New London. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.
Jules was a plumber, pipefitter, and foreman. He had a plumbing business in New London from 1952 until 1961. He became a U.S. Citizen in 1961 and went to work for Electric Boat in Groton. He became a union pipefitter for Local 305 in Uncasville and traveled extensively to jobs in the United States and Canada.
He was devoted to his family and friends. The family made many trips to Canada to visit relatives. He was a mentor and friend, offering practical, straightforward advice.
Jules was passionate about playing cards and pool. When he moved to Coventry, he became active in the Coventry Senior Center and served as president for two years. He also taught pool at the Senior Center.
He is survived by his children Maurice Bessette and his wife, Carol of Oneco, CT, Mary Duval of Andover, CT, Michael Bessette and his wife, Eriko of Honolulu, Ronald Bessette of Enfield, CT, Anne Dukehart and her husband, Matthew of Somers, CT, Claire Bessette and her husband, Dane Miller of Norwich, CT, and Norman Bessette and his wife Rosemarie of Lebanon, CT; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Lise Poissant of Quebec, Canada; brother Gerald Bessette of Quebec, Canada; and many nieces and nephews.
Jules’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic. His Funeral Mass will be Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 10:30am at St. Francis of Assisi, 67 W. Town St. Lebanon, CT 06249. His burial will follow at New Lebanon Cemetery, Waterman Rd. Lebanon.
