Joan "Joanie" Sypher Obituary
Joan Marie “Joanie” Sypher passed away peacefully at home January 25, 2021 with her husband Gary of 42 years by her side. She was born in Willimantic on June 2, 1950 to the late Albert and Rose (Gelak) Salinsky.
Joanie retired in 2020 after a 50 year career in the insurance industry, working first for the Fowler Agency and later for Postemsky Assured Partners. She was well known and respected for the dedication, knowledge and tireless efforts she had for both the agencies and her clients.
She was also involved with the Windham Chamber of Commerce as chairperson of their annual golf tournament, and was recognized as “Chairperson of the Year” in 2001 for her many years of commitment.
Joanie was a devoted wife, sister, stepmother and aunt. She loved spending time with her family and had a very close relationship with them. She was especially proud of her nieces and nephew and their children, and had many pictures of her family throughout her house.
In addition to her husband, Gary, she leaves behind a stepson Dean and his wife Kim of Block Island, stepdaughter Kelley and her partner Shannon of Bellingham, Washington; sister Norma Johnson and her husband Ed of Windham, and brother Terry Salinsky and his wife Carol of Coventry; niece Erika Blanchette and husband Kevin of Mansfield, niece Tera Carpenter and husband Steven of Lebanon, nephew Adam Salinsky and wife Georgia of Coventry, and niece Destiny Davis and husband Stacy of North Carolina and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be greatly missed by all.
The family would like to thank the staff at Windham Hospital and those of Hospice for their help.
