Jay Hilton Obituary

Jay David Winslow Hilton, 56, of Storrs, CT passed away at home surrounded by family and friends on February 26, 2024. He was born in Hartford, CT, the son of Harvey and the late Audrey (Rosenberg) Hilton.

Jay is survived by his wife of 18 years, Laura (Pinti) Hilton, children Samuel Winslow (16) and Leigh Elizabeth (15) Hilton, his father Harvey and his wife Arlynn, his brother and his wife, his mother in law, his father in law and his wife, two brothers-in-law and their wives, a sister-in-law and her husband, many nieces and nephews, aunts Nancy, Beverly and her husband Jerry, and Kimberly, many close cousins and friends including his lifelong best friends Kenny DiCapua and Min Huang and his wife Heather, and his beloved dog Rosie.

Jay was social, adventurous, and funny, meeting new friends everywhere he went and reconnecting with old friends whenever possible. He was forever ready with a smile and a joke. He loved all kinds of music, had an impressive music collection, and especially loved seeing live music and dancing the night away. Jay loved exploring the great outdoors and traveling. From skiing all over the world to snorkeling the reef off the coast of Belize to hiking the lava tunnels in Iceland to ziplining through the jungles to whitewater rafting, he wanted to experience it all! He got really excited about traveling with his family, showing his kids the beauty of the world.

Jay was incredibly hard working and successfully ran multiple businesses. As the owner of Winslow Hardwood Flooring, he came highly recommended, primarily through word of mouth from happy former customers and all of the local business owners involved in home improvement. The contractors and realtors he worked with became close friends over the years. Jay’s craftsmanship can be seen in most homes in Storrs and the surrounding towns!

Jay and Laura’s relationship was a love story for the ages. Although they didn’t meet until early 1996 when they worked together at a commercial real estate agency, the connection between their families began more than 20 years prior! Jay and Laura were stunned to learn that their fathers worked together at Aetna. Even more serendipitous was the fact that for years, Laura heard her parents talk about the lovely wedding on the sand dunes of Cape Cod. Turns out, it was the 10-year vow renewal of Jay’s parents where Laura’s father stood up as Best Man! Jay was a true romantic, and with the help of his mother, planned the most perfect surprise proposal of all time. He carried that diamond ring through the jungles of Belize and Guatemala before settling on the beach of Ambergris Caye as the ideal location. Jay was extremely loving and generous when it came to Laura, Sam, and Leigh. He worked tirelessly to give them everything and he loved them fiercely.

Saying goodbye to Jay has been and will continue to be the hardest thing we, his family, have ever done. Our love for him lives on and continues to grow. Jay lives on in our hearts, in our memories of him, and through Sam and Leigh.
