Jason "Jake" Harvey, Jr. Obituary

On January 10, 2022, Jason W. Harvey, Jr., “Jake,” of Plainfield, CT left us all way too soon.

Jake was born on September 9, 1959 in Hartford, CT. He grew up in Lebanon, CT and graduated from Lyman Memorial High School in 1977. Jake spent the last 20+ years working for South Beach Construction as a heavy equipment operator where he also managed daily field operations.

Jake held a fierce passion for motorcycles that began as an adolescent when he spent time building Indian motorcycles in the living room of his neighbor and life-long friend Jim Burns. For over 40 years, he frequented the Laconia Bike Rally and rode his Harley through the beautiful White Mountains of NH. Another of his best-loved biking excursions was attending the Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota and the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary. Jake loved adventure, and nothing compared to riding.

A life-long dream came true for this NASCAR enthusiast on his 60th birthday when his good friend gave him a ticket to drive Rusty Wallace’s race car. Without a doubt, Jake considered this the best day of his life. We will all fondly remember Sunday afternoons when the television was blaring and “Go Rusty” could be heard far and wide.

You never had to wonder where you stood with Jake. He was straightforward and held nothing back. He was a good man, a proud man, and a generous man. Jake had no regrets. He often remarked that he loved the way he lived his life, and that he would not have changed a thing. He was a loyal friend and a caring son. He would call his mother just to tell her that he loved her.

Sadly, Jake leaves behind his dear mother June S. Harvey of Lebanon, CT and is predeceased by his father Jason W. Harvey, Sr. He leaves his sister Lorrie Harvey and her partner Jeff Eldridge of Lebanon, CT and his brother Peter Harvey and his partner Janet Lewis also of Lebanon, CT. He leaves his son Ryan Slowik and granddaughter Madison of Enfield, CT, niece Dollie H. Tessman, her husband Josh, and their family of Lehi, UT, niece Samantha Dutto of Lebanon, CT, nephew Bradley Bernier of Norwich, CT, his uncle and aunt, cousins, and an amazing number of friends.

Until we see you again Jake, ride hard, ride fast, and ride free. We know you’ll have some good stories to tell us. We’ll miss you Jake, more than words can ever describe.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at The First Baptist Church, 694 Trumbull Highway, Lebanon, CT. Calling hours are from 10:30am to 12:30pm. His funeral service is at 1:00pm. Reception to follow. Attendees are kindly asked to wear a mask for the protection of others.
