Janet B. (Chapel) Houle

Janet B. Houle, 90, passed away on Thursday May 26th surrounded by her loved ones. She was born and raised in New Suffolk, NY where she lived with her parents Clifford and Mary Chapel, and her brother “Cliff”.

She graduated Southold High School and worked at an insurance office in Long Island, NY before moving to Willimantic, CT in 1952 and getting married to her soulmate Joseph Houle. They later moved to Chaplin, CT in 1955 after building their forever home and starting their family.

Janet worked for Max Foster Insurance in Willimantic for over 30 years. She was also an avid member of St. Mary’s Church in Willimantic, and later Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Hampton.

During her early years she enjoyed going clamming with her mother in Long Island, and she often went fishing on her father’s boat that he named after her.

She loved to travel with her husband Joseph, and they went on many cruises together including trips to Germany, Italy, Poland, and many repeat trips to Alaska. She also enjoyed going to the casino, and visited the dog tracks every Sunday.

Janet was also an avid Yankee fan and watched them every night faithfully. She was known for listening to Polka music, loving old-western movies, and she was a woman of many, many jokes.

Above all, she loved her family dearly, and dedicated her life to helping take care of her friends and loved ones. She was predeceased by her brother Clifford Chapel, and parents Clifford and Mary Chapel. She leaves behind her loving husband of 70 years Joseph Houle, her son Dale Houle and daughter Sharon Houle Baribeault; son in-law John Baribeault; grandchildren Jason Houle, Tracy Houle, Amber Soucie Showalter, and Donald Soucie III; along with 7 great-grandchildren.

Janet's family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, June 1, 2022  from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Willimantic CT.  Her Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 41 Cedar Swamp Road, Hampton, CT followed by her burial at 11:00am at South Chaplain Cemetery, Rte. 198 Chaplin.
