James William Currier, 76, of Chaplin, husband of the late Joan Currier, died Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Backus Hospital. He was born in Norwich, CT, the son of the late James D. and Beulah (Daw) Currier. James was a graduate of Windham High School. After High School he served in the United Stated Navy as a communications expert. Jim retired from Southern New England Telephone after 30 + years of employment. In his retirement he enjoyed being a crossing guard for the Town of Windham. Jim was a 53 years member of the Masonic Masons in Eastern Star Lodge #44 where he was Master of the Lodge four times then became a dual member with Ionic Lodge #110 and Master twice there. He served as District Deputy for Grand Lodge in 1991 and 1992. He was a member and past Grand Tall Cedar of Laurel Forest #130, Tall Cedars of Lebanon of North America. Jim was also a member of Rainbow Court #20 Order of the Amaranth and served as Royal Patron and was a member of Radiant Chapter #12 and served as Worthy Patron multiple times. He was awarded the Pierpont Edwards Metal in Bronze for Distinguished Masonic Service. Jim belonged to many more charitable service organizations also.
Jim is survived by a son, Craig Currier and his Wife Tasia Valiotis-Currier; step daughter Lisa Bernat; granddaughter Samantha Currier and her partner Peter Ouellette and two great-grandchildren Sophia age 8 and Harper age 1. Due to social distancing, a private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
