George Muckenstrom Obituary

George Matthew Muckenstrom, 90, of Columbia passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12th .  He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia (Hewitt) Muckenstrom, son Thomas Matthew Muckenstrom of Dallas, Texas, daughter Ellen (Muckenstrom) Felix of Marlborough and her husband Paul Felix.  He leaves one brother and his wife, John Muckenstrom & Judy of Sterling, Massachusetts and was pre-deceased by his sister Barbara (Muckenstrom) Newton and her husband Roy. George, affectionately called Bub, leaves behind two grandsons, Zachary and Joseph Felix of Billings, Montana as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

George was born in Clinton, MA to the late George & Annie (Golas) Muckenstrom on August 22, 1931. He served in the Korean war and used the GI bill to attend DeVry University in Chicago.  George met his future wife while they both worked at Tektronix.   Eventually, George opened his own business, Connecticut Calibration Labs in 1976 until his retirement in 2002.

George was an avid reader, especially enjoying historical fiction.  Fishing was a favorite past time, particularly in his little blue “mastercraft” with a thermos of coffee.  From the time he was a teenager, well into his eighties he enjoyed using his incredible mind and skills to build and fly model airplanes.

Due to COVID concerns, there will be no calling hours. A private memorial mass will be held in the future.
