Gary Kunhardt

Gary Kunhardt, 75, of South Windham, CT passed away on March 8, 2023. He was born in Stafford Springs, CT, the son of the late Harry and Marie (Zizka) Kunhardt.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Jeannette (Tompkins) Kunhardt, daughter Christine Matthews and her husband Ryan and Heidi Kunhardt-Parra and her husband Miguel Parra-Gonzalez. He is also survived by his grandchildren Owen, Olivia, Leo, and Mikayla, his sister Patrene and her husband Albert D’Amico. He was predeceased by his sister Andrea Tellefsen and brother Harry Kunhardt. He was also a great brother-in-law and uncle to many.

Gary was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving two tours in Vietnam.

Gary had a love of fast cars and for four-wheel driving in the Jeeps he had built over the years. He loved taking his family on adventurous road trips across the country, on yearly camping trips to Lake George, on hiking adventures in the Adirondacks and to Burlingame where he loved to drive out on East Beach.

Gary’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic. His burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the South Windham Fire Department, 41 Machine Shop Hill Rd. South Windham, CT 06266 or to the Windham VFW, 630 Valley St. Willimantic, CT 06226.
