Frances Brown Obituary

Frances Maxine Brown, 84, of Windham, CT passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024 with her devoted husband, Bob of 43 years by her side. They lovingly referred to each other as “hon”.  She was born in Trinity, Texas, the daughter of the late Nathan and Pearl (Johnson) Currie.

Maxine was a sweet, gentle, and kind woman who loved everyone.  As a traditional Southern lady born and raised in Texas, she moved to CT with her husband 37 years ago.  After all this time, she kept her sweet Southern accent which caught the attention of many.  Maxine enjoyed her family very much.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a very thoughtful person, always remembering birthdays and taking time to send the perfect gift and very thoughtful cards. In fact, it would sometimes take her hours to select the perfect card.  Maxine also enjoyed traveling with her husband in their RV to various destinations, enjoyed several cruises, visits to St. Croix and several long motorcycle trips to the Carolina’s, Sturgis, and New Hampshire.

Prior to moving to CT, Maxine was employed as a secretary for 19 years with St. Regis Paper Company in Texas. While in CT, she worked in office administration for VNA East for several years and made several good friends there.  She also worked at Walmart in the cashier’s office for a few years.  She was the bookkeeper for her husband’s masonry business for many years while also packing him a good lunch on a daily basis.  She was a dedicated wife and homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Brown and his children John Brown and his wife Patti, Christina Roberge and her husband Victor, and Lori Brown and her husband Allen, her former husband and friend Jimmy Cleveland and their sons Cary Cleveland and his wife Laura and Randy Cleveland and his fiance Cindy Churtz, sister Mary Keigley, grandchildren Chad Cleveland, Cameron Cleveland and his wife Kate, Jason Poitras, Gabriel Brown, and Paige Brown, great grandchildren Carson Cleveland, Aidan and Connor Poitras, and another Cleveland great grandchild on the way.  She leaves behind many close nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sister Betty Helms.

During her last months at home, with the dedication of her husband as her primary care giver, she was able to continue to enjoy beautiful Western sunsets from their beautiful home on the hill.  She cherished these views and is enjoying them now from a different view from above.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation and also to all of the Hospice nurses and staff.   Special appreciation to her dedicated at home caregivers, Cathy, Tracy, and Diane.  Together, we all ensured that Maxine was comfortable and pain free during her last days.

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 10:00am until 12:00pm with a prayer and blessing beginning at 11:30am at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic. Her burial will be at a later date in Texas.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, 100 Warren Cir. Storrs, CT 06268 or, The Masonic Charity Foundation of CT (Hospice), P.O. Box 70 Wallingford, CT  06492.
