Ewald Walz, 75, of Willimantic, passed peacefully on June 8, 2019 surrounded by family and his beloved wife (Shatzie) Hildegard Walz at Windham Hospital.
Ewald was born in Germany on February 20, 1944. The Walz Family immigrated to the USA in April of 1952. He studied Civil and Transportation Engineering at UCONN for his under and post graduate degree. Ewald was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the US Army.
Ewald was known for his love of the great outdoors. He was an avid bicyclist, loved camping, canoeing, hiking and skiing. In addition to his love of the outdoors he was a longtime member of the Harugari Singing Society and a lifetime honorary member of the HSV Bavaria Schuplattlers. He was a diehard Yankees baseball and UCONN basketball fan.
Ewald had a great love for his family and would do anything for a loved one. He is survived by his wife Hildegard Walz, daughter Tanya Manning and husband Dennis, daughter Stella Holly Hewlett and husband Mike, brother Richard Walz and Christa Jordan, sister Anna Heise and husband Herbert with son David and daughter Christina, sister Emma Walz-Vaitkus and husband Kastytis, and sister Erika Walz and husband Jack McManus. His grandchildren Alexandra, Zachary, Allison, Erik Jr, Ilyana, Kayden. Also, Suzan Lynch, Heather Harrison and Shannon Mathieu.
Ewald’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 13, 2019 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations to be directed to the Multiple Myeloma Center at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA.
