It is with heavy hearts we share the death of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Emma Rose (Bertora) Carey. Emma passed away at St. Joseph Living Center on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 from dementia and complications of the corona virus at the age of 93. Emma was born in Willimantic, CT on February 11, 1927 to Salvatore and Lena (Melo) Bertora. She was married to former Mayor Leo P. Carey on September 5, 1949. Emma leaves behind her five children, Michael and Paula Shea, Dennis and Barbara Littlefield, Patrick and Cynthia Carey, John and Cheryl Carey, and Douglas and Teresa LeFleur; grandchildren Brianne Shea, Craig and Charity Littlefield, Adam and Caitlin Grenier, Timothy Carey and fiancée Theresa Gendreau, Brighid Carey, Emma Carey and fiancé Jack Sherwood, Allison Carey and Rowan, Bridey and Maeve LaFleur; great grandchildren Teagan Arbitman, Carter and Leslie Littlefield, Hallie and Mason Grenier, and Camdon Carey; and sister in law, Gail M. Knapp. She was predeceased by her husband Leo; brothers Henry Bertora and John Knapp; and sister Teresa Bertora Depathy. Her burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations suggested to The Card Home for the Aged and St. Joseph Living Center (Attn: Employee Appreciations). Emma’s family would like to thank The Card Home and St. Joseph Living Center for their loving care.
