Elizabeth Skaats Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” (Spencer) Skaats, 87, of Windham Center, CT died Tuesday, November 5, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Agnes (Dean) Spencer. Betty graduated from Windham High School in 1950 and the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing with an R.N. degree in 1953. She married Norman Skaats on 10/13/1953 in Wethersfield, CT. Betty and her husband owned and operated Liberty Hill Farm Market Greenhouses in Lebanon, CT for many years.

Together they had four children, Richard (Donna) of Lebanon, Susan Laughlin-Dean of Manchester, Timothy (Beth) of Lebanon, and Carol Piechowicz (Mark) of Bolton and 5 grandchildren, Jared and Carl Skaats, Brittany and Parker Skaats, and Megan Piechowicz. She also leaves 2 brothers, John (Norma) Spencer of Scotland, CT and Randall (Arlene) Spencer of East Lyme, CT. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman and her brother, William Dean Spencer.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Douglas Manor and Hartford Hospital Cardiac Unit. There will be a gathering for family and friends at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic, CT on Sunday, November 17 from 11:00am-1:00pm. Interment will be private at Liberty Hill Cemetery.
