Elaine Victoria Turner Drew passed away peacefully on December 18, 2020. She was born to Fred C. Turner and Frances Mae Eaton Turner on May 8, 1931, in North Bucksport, Maine. She was the beloved wife of Walter Drew for nearly 60 years.
Elaine devoted much of her life to enjoying the company of her family and caring for others. Growing up in Maine with four brothers and five sisters, she spent many days with her parents and siblings going for walks, blueberrying, picnicking by the Penobscot River, playing in a playhouse built by their dad, sledding ice skating and many other adventures.
She graduated from Bucksport High School in 1950 with fourth honors. She also graduated from Barrington-Providence Bible College, Rhode Island, in 1955 with a major in Bible Studies and completed nursing studies at New England Baptist Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, in 1958.
While working as a nurse, she met and married Walter Drew. They had two children, Allison and Chuck. Elaine particularly enjoyed family travels and extended family gatherings. She also continued to work part time as a nurse and home caregiver throughout much of her life. Keeping a beautiful home and bringing happiness to her family and those she worked for were priorities throughout her life. She enjoyed reading, sewing, crafts, league bowling, bible studies and long walks in the woods.
She will be remembered most as a gentle, kind spirit who had a particular strength for listening to others, seeking to understand them and providing comfort. Elaine was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband and siblings Fred, Arthur, Margaret, Jayne, Maxine and Robert. She is survived by her children and siblings Caroline, Richard and Durena. A private family graveside service was held on December 28, 2020.
