It is with deep sadness that we mourn the sudden passing of Edward V. Savino, 60, of Scotland, CT on February 16, 2021.
Ed was born in Willimantic to Donald and Renate (Richter) Savino on February 20, 1960.
He graduated from Parish Hill High School, and then Suma Cum Laude from ECSU, where he was awarded the Henry Barnard Distinguished Student award. He received a Fellowship to Yale University where he earned his Master’s Degree in Cell and Molecular Biology. He was proud of his years worked in research, and most recently worked as a Bioanalytical Development Scientist at Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Ed loved the sea. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard, and spent most of his free time on the water. He was an avid fisherman, and we will remember his generosity in shared fishing expeditions and fresh fish and lobster dinners. As long as the fish were biting, he would continuously repeat “One more drift.” Friends and family will miss him dearly.
Throughout his life, Ed was passionate about all things nature. He loved being outdoors in any capacity, and was awed by the beauty of the Earth. He enjoyed gardening, and began harvesting, canning, and drying his bounty ~ which he loved to share with others.
In addition to his parents, Ed is survived by his siblings; Daniel Savino and Laurie of Hampton, Anthony Savino and Melanie of Andover, and Tina (Savino) Smith and William of East Haddam. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews; Heather, Richard, Melissa, Emily (God-daughter), Morgan, Michael, Nicholas, Cameron, and Dylan (God-son). He also leaves several great nieces and nephews.
The family will welcome friends and relatives in a celebratory remembrance at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Willimantic, on Saturday, March 13, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The burial will be private.
