Dr. Kannangath Narayan Kutty, 86, of Mansfield Center, CT passed away on July 4, 2020.
Dr. Kutty was Professor Emeritus of English Literature at Eastern Connecticut State University where he taught for 30 years. Dr. Kutty, a long time resident of Mansfield Center, arrived in Storrs CT, as a Fulbright Scholar, and obtained his PhD in English Literature at The University of Connecticut. A passionate scholar of ideas, he dedicated his life toward teaching. According to Dr. Kutty, Modern English Literature illuminated the human condition in all its suffering and redemption, articulated by his life-long fascination in the works of the famed writer and playwright, Samuel Beckett, whom he ultimately met in Paris. Dr. Kutty came from The House of Kannangath, a matriarchal family of educators in Kerala, India, and was a proud proponent of the power of ideas and education throughout his life.
He is survived by his two daughters, Kalpana and Nisha Kutty, and granddaughter Surya Richman.
