Clarisse "Clare" Pillion passed away on January 20, 2024, at the age of 76 at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation (MCNR) surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Hartford, CT, Clare’s nurturing spirit and unwavering kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. Clare is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Gary, from Columbia, CT; her children, Patrick and wife Suzann, Jennie Forney and husband Bryan, Mary Cushner, and Sarah Graham and husband David; her amazing grandchildren, Ryan, Jason, Alice, William, Anna, James, Noah, Julianna and Aaron; sister, Joan Becker; brothers, Francis and his wife Patrica, and Donald Antaya; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Regina Antaya, and her brother Richard.
Clare dedicated over 40 years to the field of nursing, a testament to her enduring commitment to the care and well-being of others. Her journey in healthcare began at St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing where she cultivated the skills that would define her lifelong vocation. An advocate for lifelong learning, she extended her education with a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Eastern Connecticut State University, intertwining her expertise in nursing with a deep understanding of the human mind and spirit. Outside the hospital walls, Clare found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid gardener and crafter. Clare's love for her family was the cornerstone of her existence. She cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. A lover of history, Clare enjoyed visiting colonial sites where she would immerse herself in the stories of the past, often sharing these experiences with her children.
Clare’s life was one of purpose, passion, and faith. Her life exemplified the true essence of giving and genuine connection. She is deeply missed. Her family would like to thank the caring nurses and staff at MCNR and the Hartford Healthcare Hospice Team for their amazing care and kindness during the last few months of Clare’s life. They are a truly dedicated and compassionate team. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department or St. Columba Catholic Church in Columbia, CT.
