Claire Werfelman Obituary

Claire Werfelman, 95, of Columbia, CT passed quietly to meet her Savior on Saturday, November 26, 2022. She was married to her husband, Robert, for 62 years until his Lord and Savior called him home in May 2014.

Claire is survived by her brother Lloyd Fike of Indiana and her only daughter Jane and her husband William Forbes. She loved her three grandchildren, Meredith, Amy, and Timothy and their spouses, and eleven great grandchildren in Maryland, Alaska, and Texas.

Claire and Bob met through mutual friends John and Kathy (Powell) Goodhart and enjoyed many years gathering with the Powell family and other church families as their parents had passed early in life. Claire and Bob were active in several churches through their life and loved the fellowship they shared with the family of God. Summer Bible camp, teaching Sunday school and bringing kids to church and youth retreats are a few of the ways they shared their love for the Lord with others. Hymns of faith brought peace and joy to them.

They loved the beauty of God’s creation in New England and often enjoyed scenic drives to see nature, the change of seasons, historic places, Harkness Beach and upstate New York-Meredith, Oneonta, and Cooperstown. Claire fondly remembered her early life in Meredith at the Baptist Church and picking huckleberries on her Uncle Jay’s farm. She valued friendships and stayed in contact to the end by exchanging letters and calls with many people including her school friend Edith and her brother Francis Fike who passed on November 1.

Her family is thankful for the extra care she was given at her home by Debby and the nurses and staff at the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in Brooklyn, CT.

There are no calling hours. Claire’s services will be at the convenience of her family.
